A Aquasis possui como miss\u00e3o evitar a extin\u00e7\u00e3o das esp\u00e9cies no Nordeste do Brasil, com foco principal no Estado do Cear\u00e1. Este \u00e9 um trabalho \u00e1rduo e de longo prazo, onde o envolvimento das comunidades e do p\u00fablico em geral \u00e9 de fundamental import\u00e2ncia para garantir a prote\u00e7\u00e3o dos animais amea\u00e7ados e a manuten\u00e7\u00e3o das \u00e1reas naturais onde eles habitam.<\/p>\n

TIMELINE<\/strong><\/p>\n

(1992) Foundation of the Cetacean Study Group of Cear\u00e1 (GECC) –<\/strong> The GECC was a group composed by students and professors from the Federal University of Cear\u00e1 (UFC) and State University of Cear\u00e1 (UECE). Eventually, the group gave origin to Aquasis.<\/p>\n

(1994) Foundation of Aquasis –<\/strong> We first began our activities at the Laborat\u00f3rio de Ci\u00eancias do Mar(LABOMAR), a facility of the Federal State of Cear\u00e1.<\/p>\n

(1996) Inauguration of the Monitoring Tower at Ponte Met\u00e1lica –<\/strong> This mark represents the beginning of the monitoring activities of a population of guiana dolphins (sotalia guianesis) at the Ponte Met\u00e1lica, Praia de Iracema, Fortaleza\/CE.<\/p>\n

(1998) Integrated Monitoring of the Coastal Zone of Cear\u00e1 –<\/strong> We perfomend an anthropogenic and geo-environmental survey through the 573 Km (356 mi) of coastal zone at the state of Cear\u00e1. The data and conclusions of this research are descript in the book \u201cZona Costeira do CE: Diagn\u00f3stico para Gest\u00e3o Integrada\u201d (2003).<\/p>\n

(2001) Move to SESC Iparana –<\/strong> We were granted a partnership with the Brazilian Commerce Social Service (SESC), in which was agreed the transfer our activities from LABOMAR to SESC Iparana. We built the first quarantine structure for calves of manatees in Cear\u00e1.<\/p>\n

(2003) Araripe Manakin –<\/strong> The year of 2003 marks the beginning of our conservation efforts towards the Araripe manakin in the region of Cariri. At the time, the specie was listed by IUCN as Critically Endangered.<\/p>\n

(2005) Grey-breasted Parakeet –<\/strong> We adopted the grey-breasted parakeet as a flagship species in 2003, by surveying the remaining of occurence areas in the states of Cear\u00e1 and Pernambuco.<\/p>\n

(2010) Permanent Araripe Manakin Headquarter –<\/strong> We established a permanent headquarters at Crato\/CE to research on the Araripe manakin and to execute conservation plans for the species.<\/p>\n

(2012) Marine Mammals Rehabilitation Center (CRMM) –<\/strong> We created the first Brazilian non-profit facility for the complete rehabilitation and posterior release of orphan manatee calves. Until 2012, we rescued 31 stranded calves only at Cear\u00e1.<\/p>\n

(2016) RPPN \u201cReserva O\u00e1sis Araripe\u201d –<\/strong> The Oasis Araripe reserve (RPPN Oasis do Araripe) was idealized to protect the Araripe manakin and to recover deforested riparian forest areas in the region of Crato.<\/p>\n
